Two women sitting opposite one another take it in turns to read out short phrases in a monotone voice from the slips of paper they have extracted from fortune cookies. the aphorisms or word of guidance are printed in English and German, and are read out, depending on which side of the paper happens to be facing up, until the box of sweet biscuits is empty. Translation errors are not addressed.

Good to know that all will turn out for the best. This sentence stands in stark contrast to the monotone and disinterested tones of voice. It feels like an ironic formula which the women seem to draw out over the whole session."
